Over the years, MediaTek’s chipsets have typically taken a backseat to Qualcomm. But in recent years, the company’s flagship chipsets are proving the company has what it takes to compete. In fact, according to newly leaked specifications of the Dimensity 9600 Pro, MediaTek is going all out.
MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro specifications leaked
This information comes courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station in a post on Weibo. According to the post, MediaTek is going to take advantage of TSMC’s N2P node to manufacture the chipset. It also appears that MediaTek has changed up the configuration slightly.
According to the leaked specifications, the Dimensity 9600 Pro will use a 2+3+3 configuration, instead of your usual 1+3+4 configuration. The report also reveals that the chipset will support clock speeds of up to 5GHz, SME2, Arm Magni GPU, LPDDR6 RAM, and UFS 5.0 storage.
That being said, with all this power, there is a concern when it comes to thermals. This will depend on the phone maker and how they decide to cool it. These days, vapor chambers are becoming more common. However, maybe it could use a helping hand via liquid cooling or even an active fan, something we’ve seen in some newer gaming phones.
Following Qualcomm’s strategy
Now, in case you didn’t know, Qualcomm is expected to launch two flagship chipsets this year. This comes in the form of the base Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a Pro version. Based on the latest details, it seems like MediaTek could follow suit.
Previous reports suggest the standard Dimensity 9600 could be built on the 2nm process as well. However, we have heard reports that it might be built on an enhanced 3nm node instead. This could help differentiate between the models better.
In any case, from everything we’ve heard so far, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is definitely worth keeping an eye out for. We still don’t know who MediaTek’s customers are going to be. But with Qualcomm continuously increasing prices, MediaTek’s chipsets are looking to be a whole lot more attractive (to the wallet).
