- The MX-5 Toji was created by Belgian dealer Mazda St-Michel and Gisele Racing.
- It looks like a 35th Anniversary edition with different rims and retro interior touches.
- The model will be produced in 12 units, with a price tag of €43,333 ($49,100).
The Mazda MX-5 has gained a large following as one of the coolest affordable sports cars, but that hasn’t stopped a certain part of its fanbase from wanting something a little bit more exclusive. Belgian dealer Mazda St-Michel has created yet another special edition of the roadster in collaboration with Gisele Racing, combining subtle exterior and interior touches with a sportier suspension setup.
The MX-5 Toji is a follow up to the Geshi and Shubun special editions from the same dealer. However, instead of the 2.0-liter engine that has been dropped from the European lineup, it is fitted with the base 1.5-liter mill that delivers 129 hp (96 kW / 131 PS). Despite the low power output, the Toji rides on Bilstein dampers for sharper handling.

What makes the this edition special is a number of styling tweaks inspired by the classic Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S coupe from 1967, plus the fact that it kinds makes up for the absence of the MX-5 35th 1Anniversary edition from Europe. The bodywork is painted in a deep Artisan Red Premium shade that’s looks very similar to the Artisan Red Metallic of the 35th Anniversary.
The classy exterior color is combined with a new set of aftermarket 17-inch Borbet alloy wheels. Those have a BBS-style design which is complemented by a bi-tone finish.

Changes are more notable inside the cabin. The seats and dashboard are covered in an Exclusive Heritage Cosmo houndstooth upholstery, adding a retro touch. In the same context, the steering wheel and gear knob have genuine wood inserts, while the floor mats feature unique embroidery.

Mazda St-Michel and Gisèle Racing will only make 12 units of the MX-5 Toji. All of them are set to be delivered to European customers by the end of this year.
The special edition comes with a price tag of €43,333 ($49,100). This represents a big step up compared to the base Mazda MX-5 ND with the same engine/gearbox configuration, which currently starts at €31,790 ($36,000) in Belgium. Do you think that the styling upgrades and the exclusivity are enough to justify the extra €11,543 ($13,100)?
