The latest Google Clock update brings a few noticeable changes to one of Android’s more basic, but essential, apps. According to a 9to5Google report, version 7.14 is now rolling out, giving the Google Clock widget and UI a mild visual update while keeping some features exclusive to Pixel phones.
Material 3 comes to Google Clock
With the Google Clock update, the most obvious change comes to the world clock tab. Weather icons for each time zone have lost their color. Instead of bright suns and cloudy skies, everything is now shown in gray. We have to admit it looks cleaner and blends better with the rest of the UI. However, for some, it’s easier to miss if you’re just skimming through.
Pixel owners will also see a slight redesign to the weather icon style, which now aligns with what’s coming in the new At a Glance revamp in Android 16 QPR1. The Timer Starter widget continues to remain exclusive to Pixel phones. You still can’t add it to non-Pixel devices. This feels a bit like a missed opportunity, especially considering how often people use timers throughout the day.
To check your version, tap on Settings > Apps > See all apps > Clock, then scroll to the bottom. If you’re not on version 7.14, you can grab the latest version from the Play Store.
The Material 3 rollout continues
This update also reflects Google’s slow but steady push toward adopting Material 3 across its apps. The new toggle switches now appear in the Alarm tab and the Settings list. They’re slightly taller and slimmer, with a more defined off state and a subtler circular handle. These are small changes, but they help unify the visual experience.
While Material 3 was introduced years ago, many first-party Google apps are still catching up. We’ve seen similar updates recently in the Phone app, which now includes expressive design tweaks in the Recents tab. Google Password Manager was updated not long ago. Even the Pixel Camera app has started using Material 3 buttons and sliders.
It could be a while before we see all of Google and Android’s native apps get the Material 3 treatment. But for now, Google seems committed to bringing all its apps under the same Material 3 umbrella.
