“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill joked Monday about President Trump building the franchise’s Death Star where the East Wing of the White House used to be.
“I have a very bad feeling about this…” Hamill, most known for playing the character of Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise, said Monday in a post on the social platform Bluesky.
Hamill’s post also featured a picture of the White House with what appears to be the Death Star under construction right next to it. The “Star Wars” icon has a history of going after Trump, once calling the president “crazy” and “dumb as a rock.”
The razing of the East Wing was completed last week, with excavators first spotted on Oct. 20.
The East Wing previously held the office of first lady Melania Trump, the offices of the White House social secretary and calligrapher, the movie theater and the presidential bunker.
The demolition of the East Wing to leave space for the president’s ballroom has resulted in outcry from critics. Trump had initially said the ballroom would be close to but “not touching” the existing building.
The Washington Post editorial board on Saturday praised Trump’s controversial demolition of the East Wing.
“The White House cannot simply be a museum to the past. Like America, it must evolve with the times to maintain its greatness. Strong leaders reject calcification. In that way, Trump’s undertaking is a shot across the bow at NIMBYs everywhere,” the Post’s editorial board wrote.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
