New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani (D) is leading former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo by 10 points in the New York City mayoral race to succeed outgoing Mayor Eric Adams, according to a new poll.Â
A Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters released on Wednesday shows Mamdani in first place at 43 percent support, followed by Cuomo at 33 percent and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa at 14 percent. A separate 6 percent of survey respondents said they were undecided.Â
A similar poll released by the university earlier this month found Mamdani with slightly higher support, at 46 percent, and Sliwa at 15 percent. Cuomo remained stagnant at 33 percent. A separate 3 percent of respondents said they were undecided.Â
All three men are vying for Adams’s seat after the incumbent announced he would be forgoing a reelection bid late in the race. Polling has found Mamdani consistently ahead of the pack, with a Decision Desk HQ polling average of surveys on the race showing him at 45 percent support, Cuomo at 31 percent and Sliwa at 16 percent.Â
Adams made a late endorsement for Cuomo last week. Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.), who represents a battleground district on Long Island, backed Cuomo on Wednesday as moderate Democrats, independents and even some Republicans try to quickly coalesce around the former New York governor ahead of next week.Â
But some holdouts are coming around to Mamdani as well, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who endorsed him last week after holding out for most of the election. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has notably refused to back Mamdani in the race.Â
The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted between Oct. 23 and Oct. 27 with 911 likely voters. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
