Apple appears to have a lot on its plate. It is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17 lineup, reportedly on September 9th. There’s also a more powerful Apple TV in the works for later this year. Beyond these, the Cupertino giant is reportedly planning to unveil its first foldable iPhone in 2026. In the midst of this, a new report now claims the first MacBook Pro model with an OLED display will launch in late 2026.
OLED MacBook Pro may arrive in 2026
According to a new report from Dealsite.co.kr, Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of OLED panels for the said MacBook Pro models. The South Korean giant has invested heavily in Gen 8.6 OLED production lines. This means the company should be able to meet Apple’s MacBook OLED panels design next year.
The Gen 8.6 lines use larger glass substrates conductive with laptop and monitor panels, and combine oxide TFT technology for low power consumption and scalability. This is said to reduce manufacturing costs.

Last month, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple doesn’t plan to update any Macs with M5 chips in 2025. He further noted that the timeline is subject to change. The current M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max MacBook Pro models debuted in October 2024. If this note from Gurman is indeed true, Apple may be skipping the yearly refresh.
If Apple is indeed planning to launch M5 MacBook Pro models in 2026, this could mean the OLED model could move to 2027. However, it’s possible Apple could debut the M5 MacBook Pro in early 2026 and the OLED version with the M6 chip in late 2026. But this isn’t Apple’s style.
MacBook Pro OLED could get a major redesign
This transition from mini-LED to OLED display will yield benefits such as improved power efficiency and brighter screens. A report from late 2024 said that the OLED MacBook Pro could feature a pill-shaped or hole-punch cutout instead of a notch. It remains to be seen whether this rumour will stay true when it debuts next year.
This shift will be accompanied by a major redesign of MacBook Pros since 2021. According to reports, the goal is to deliver the thinnest form factor without compromising on battery life and other features.
Additionally, there are reports that Apple is also working on a low-cost MacBook with an iPhone chip.
