- Police in Sterlington, Louisiana threatened to cite drivers without 4WD.
- Authorities were upset with cars getting stuck and blocking traffic.
- The department decried “comical ignorance” and “Google lawyers.”
Southern states normally don’t have to worry about snow and ice, but a recent winter storm brought unusually cold weather to places that aren’t used to it. This included Sterlington, Louisiana which is home to roughly 2,000 people.
While Northerners wouldn’t even shrug at a little bit of snow and ice, all hell broke loose and police had enough. In a social media post, the seven member police department said “If we find you stuck in a non 4×4 vehicle and you’re blocking traffic, we are issuing citations.”

They went on to say the situation had “gotten past the point of ridiculous” and they’ve told people “countless times to stay home unless you have a 4×4” vehicle. The department added utility companies and emergency services “can’t help people if we can’t get down our highways” due to stranded vehicles.
The post went over like a lead balloon and one popular reply pointed out it’s not against the law to own a two-wheel drive vehicle and the government should have been better prepared, and capable of clearing the roads. Others noted people aren’t taking joyrides as they’re simply trying to get to work.
🚨EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY🚨
If we find you stuck in a non 4×4 vehicle and you’re blocking traffic we are issuing citations. It has gotten past the point of ridiculous. We have told everyone countless times to stay home unless you have a 4×4 and it isn’t doing any good. Emergency Services and Entergy Linemen can’t help people if we can’t get down our highways.

They went on to throw shade at “Google lawyers” and say “If you want to express your feelings, our messenger and comments section is a waste of your time. Come by our office and speak with Chief [Brown], he loves a good conversation.”
Needless to say, that’s not a great look for the department or town. This is especially true when the hubbub was apparently over a mere 2.58 inches (66 mm) of snow.
You know, through all the chaos we have to find time to laugh. Here is you a perfect example of one of the “Google…
