Looking at the history of Lotus, and you’ll find that the company seems to prefer using new names for its cars as much as possible. It even likes applying new names to cars that aren’t all that different from their predecessors. For instance, the current Emira is a thoroughly refreshed Evora. However, there are some unusual instances in which it has gone back to some of its more famous models for names. It revived the Elan name for its ill-fated front-drive roadster in the 1990s, and the strange, softened, Elise-based Europa of the mid-2000s.
