Back in the 1960s, there was a tendency for manufacturers to build sports cars that were on the larger and heavier side. However, Lotus didn’t subscribe to this approach and decided to build a compact and featherweight roadster without too many frills as something that would deliver to its owners some direct, formula-type-car feedback. As it turns out, this new Lotus Elan not only set new standards, but it’s gone on to become a handling legend in the automotive world. And thankfully, you can now buy one of many excellent used examples today for a relative steal.
