 
        President Trump said late Thursday that the Senate should get rid of the filibuster so it could pass the government funding bill with a simple majority.
“It is now time for the Republicans to play their ‘TRUMP CARD,’ and go for what is called the Nuclear Option — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW!” he posted on Truth Social.
As the government shutdown stretches into its 31st day, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are set to expire Saturday, affecting over 40 million people.
The Senate GOP conference is starting to fracture over whether that should be allowed to happen. But the upper chamber has adjourned for the weekend, set to return on Monday.
Meanwhile, some House Republicans are growing frustrated on how they’ll make up for lost ground after an unscheduled six-week absence, with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) keeping the chamber on recess since it voted on a “clean” continuing resolution on Sept. 19.
Trump is slated to travel to Florida for the weekend after returning Thursday from a five-day, three-country swing through Asia and an evening of Halloween celebration at the White House.
