LEGO is rumored to be launching a PS1 set later this year following the success of sets based on Nintendo’s NES system . Atari 2600, and more recently, the Nintendo Game Boy handheld. LEGO has long been creating sets based on popular characters and themes from these systems, but it only more recently started making LEGO sets of the actual systems themselves.
Now, it seems LEGO is setting its sights on another classic console. This time, it’s said to be Sony’s PS1, officially known as the original PlayStation. It’s worth keeping in mind that this is just a rumor, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, if it turns out to be accurate, then here’s what consumers have to look forward to.
The LEGO PS1 set will reportedly cost around $159.99, and launch this December
According to the rumor, which comes from lego_minecraft_goat on Instagram (via WinFuture), the LEGO PS1 set will cost around $159.99 (159 Euros), and LEGO plans to launch the set this December as a holiday offering. It’s also being said that it will be rated as (18+), and that it will come with 1,911 pieces to complete the set.
The set will also reportedly include the console and at least one controller. It’s not clear if there will be any other parts of the original console worked into the design of this set. Given the NES set only had one controller, though, it seems likely that LEGO would follow the same path. With regard to the rumored cost, $159.99 sounds about right based on what is said to come in the set. For comparison, the NES set was $269.99 at MSRP, and it came with the console, a controller, a game cartridge, and a TV with a turn handle that would let you move 8-bit Mario across the screen.
If the PS1 set price is accurate, then it’s unlikely to come with as much stuff as the NES set.
