Israel targeted Houthi leaders in a Wednesday strike on rebels’ government offices in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen.
“The strikes were conducted in response to repeated attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthis, including launching UAVs and surface-to-surface missiles toward Israeli territory,” the Israel Defense Forces wrote in a statement on X, noting additional attacks on the Al Jawf province.
The IDF said it struck a fuel storage site being used by Houthis, a public relations department and military camps.
Houthis backed by Iran have publicly declared support for Hamas and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli attack on Houthis follows a Tuesday strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar, which Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani condemned.
“I think that we have reached a decisive moment,” Al Thani said, describing relations with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu.
“There should be retaliation from the whole region in the face of those barbaric actions that only reflects one thing: It reflects the barbarism of this person that is leading the region, unfortunately, to a point where we cannot address any situation and we cannot repair anything, and we cannot work within the frameworks of international laws. He just violates all those international laws,” he continued.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Wednesday the bloc would seek sanctions and a partial trade suspension against Israel as a result of ongoing conflict and starvation in the Gaza Strip, according to The Associated Press.
“We will put our bilateral support to Israel on hold. We will stop all payments in these areas, without affecting our work with Israeli civil society or Yad Vashem,” she said during an address in France, referencing Israel’s Holocaust memorial.
