It looks like the tech giant BOE is not going to have a good time in the coming days. It is one of the leading display suppliers to Apple’s iPhone. And was recently under the scrutiny of the US Trade Commission for the alleged violation of trade secret laws. It is now, once again, under investigation by one of the US government’s departments.
US Defense Department Order Investigation Against iPhone’s Display Supplier BOE
The US Defense Department has received a request from the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee to order an investigation into iPhone’s display supplier, BOE. This demand comes as the newly amended US Defense Budget of $852 billion goes under review.
The US House of Representatives Armed Services suspects that BOE might be working with the Chinese military. And subsequently, it requests an investigation from the concerned department. It wants the BOE to be listed as a Chinese Military Company or a military civil contributor.
The Investigation is to Take Place Very Soon
The investigation will mainly revolve around the topic of whether BOE funds the Chinese military. However, even if the display supplier is placed on the list of Chinese Military Compact, it does not mean that the company won’t be able to do business in the region. It just means that it will no longer become a part of the US military’s supply chain. It may have other direct or indirect consequences, though.
The Secretary of Defense is supposed to submit information by February 01, 2026, on whether BOE should be listed as a Chinese Military Company. Once the information is provided, the bill must be passed by the Senate before September 30, 2025. The bill should then be later approved by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, before it comes into force.
