Apple is expected to introduce major upgrades from the iPhone 17 Pro in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, which Apple is scheduled to debut by September this year. But ahead of that, some sources have shared images of the screen protector of the iPhone 18 Pro device. The dimensions and the overall look of the screen protector suggest the tech giant is finally resizing its Dynamic Island.
Leaked iPhone 18 Pro screen protector shows Apple is resizing Dynamic Island
The leaked image of the iPhone 18 Pro’s screen protector indicates that Apple could reduce the size of the Dynamic Island by around 35%. This would mark the first noticeable redesign since its introduction with the iPhone 14 Pro series. Further, the resizing of the Dynamic Island goes well beyond aesthetics. The change appears to be linked to improvements in Face ID hardware placement beneath the display.
Reports suggest that the infrared flood illuminator may move under the screen. This will free up space and allow the brand to switch to a smaller visible cutout. However, the infrared camera is still expected to require a hole in the display, which is the reason why Apple is not eliminating the cutout yet.
Improved Face ID hardware and narrow bezels are coming
Earlier reports had revealed that Apple has been working on under-display components for years but has faced technical challenges. These include maintaining accuracy and reliability for facial recognition, which remains a core feature of the iPhone Pro lineup. The new change suggests the company is finally progressive in achieving its goal.
As of the rumored specs, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to include a new 2nm-based A20 Pro chip and a variable-aperture camera system. It may also get other improvements in terms of battery life and overall experience. The smaller Dynamic Island could be part of a larger transition toward a cleaner display design. The change could set the stage for more dramatic changes in the coming years.
