The iPhone 17e will be Apple’s first hardware product of the year, 2026. It will succeed the iPhone 16e with some notable upgrades, like MagSafe wireless charging support and a faster A19 chip. Apple may unveil the device directly with just a press release, much like how it did with the iPhone 16e. Speaking of which, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the inventory of iPhone 16e has basically “dried out.” This signals that the iPhone 17e is coming very soon.
iPhone 16e inventory has reportedly dried up, hinting that the iPhone 17e is coming soon
Going into details, Mark Gurman says that Apple retail employees say that the inventory of the iPhone 16e has dried up. Additionally, he adds that the M3 iPad Air is also seeing shortages. He’s expecting new versions of both the iPhone 17e and the M4 iPad Air in the coming weeks. Recent reports claim that the new low-cost iPhone may break cover on February 19th.
There are chances Apple will unveil two products (iPhone 17e and M4 iPad Air) in the same week. Both upcoming Apple product may not see any major design changes.
Same price and some key upgrades
The iPhone 17e may sport the same 6.1-inch OLED display as the iPhone 16e. In fact, the refresh rate will still be 60Hz. No 120Hz ProMotion goodness even this year. It isn’t specifically clear whether the phone will get a Dynamic Island design change or retain the old notch. This is because there have been contradicting reports, so we’ll have to wait for Apple to clear that.
The iPhone 17e will receive a MagSafe wireless charging upgrade this year with up to 25W speed. As for cameras, the upcoming iPhone will just get a single 48MP camera unit and a 12MP lens on the front for selfies. It will feature an A19 chip, an upgrade from the A18 on the iPhone 16e. The new model may get the C1-series modem for wireless connectivity.
The iPhone 17e may retain the same price as the iPhone 16e, i.e., $599 for the base variant. At this price, it can be a value iPhone. But you’ll have to live with the shortcomings, like a single camera and a 60Hz display.
