The iPhone 17 lineup will debut at the company’s hardware event, possibly in September, much like every year. The series will see a new model in the form of the iPhone 17 Air, which is a slim offering that’ll rival the Galaxy S25 Edge. The Pro models may arrive with a design overhaul, mainly to the rear camera layout. It is now reported that the iPhone 17 series will see a $50 price increase, with China tariffs being one of the reasons.
Every iPhone 17 model will reportedly see a price hike
According to the new investor note by Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, the price hike is to offset the rising component costs and China tariffs. However, it’s worth noting that other potential cost pressures from India and sector tariffs aren’t included yet. Apple is gearing up for day-one production of the iPhone 17 in India alongside China.
The iPhone 17 price increase will apply to all models, including the base iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and the top-of-the-line iPhone 17 Pro Max. To recall, the current iPhone 16 series ranges between $799 and $1,199 for the top-end iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Furthermore, the analyst gave the Apple Stock (AAPL) a hold rating. This is considering strong iPhone sales in the second quarter of 2025. The US telecommunications companies are reporting a 22% growth in equipment sales, which is apparently the highest in six quarters.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a price hike
The Wall Street Journal, back in May, reported that Apple was thinking of raising the prices of the iPhone 17. Apple may justify the price hike by offering an improved design and introducing new features. The standard iPhone 17 may finally get a ProMotion display, which is long overdue. Meanwhile, the Pro models could see notable camera upgrades, including 8x optical zoom, a new Pro camera app, and more.
