According to a post on Weibo by tipster Fixed Focus Digital, they claim that the iPhone 17 Air will come with 12GB of RAM. For context, Apple’s iPhone 16 series only came with 8GB of RAM across the board. If the rumors are accurate, Apple is expected to bump the RAM in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models to 12GB.
This means that the iPhone 17 Air could come with “Pro” level memory. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this rumor. Notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously claimed something similar. Now, the new post on Weibo corroborates that. This also means that the only iPhone maintaining 8GB of RAM is the base iPhone 17.
But Apple isn’t stopping at just a RAM upgrade. The post also claims that Apple could upgrade the iPhone 17 Air’s chip. It was rumored that the phone could be powered by the Apple A19. Now, this new post suggests that the iPhone 17 Air could get the A19 Pro, which will also be used in the Pro and Pro Max models.
That is a huge deal! Suddenly, the poor battery life and lack of multiple cameras seem easier to stomach.
Emphasis on the design
Before all this new information came to light, the only thing the iPhone 17 Air had going for it was its design. Based on all the leaked renders and dummy units, the iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. We have to admit that it does look pretty good. However, the original rumored specs and price made it a tough pill to swallow.
However, with these new “upgrades”, maybe it won’t be so bad. At the end of the day, it will depend on how you use your phone. If you’re not too fussy about cameras and photography and just want something slim and sleek, then this could be the phone for you. However, if you care about price, the base iPhone 17 might be a better option. Alternatively, the Pro and Pro Max models are worth considering if you want the best Apple has to offer.
