Intel CPUs have almost always been on the expensive end compared to alternatives like AMD, and that’s going to continue for some of Intel’s older models, as it now looks like there are going to be price increases for several of its CPUs in the 12th, 13th, and 14th generations across global markets.
While prices may not end up increasing everywhere, it appears that prices have gone up in more than a few regions. Suggesting that Intel may be bumping up the cost of this older technology worldwide in due time. It’s also worth noting that this may not apply to every single CPU that Intel makes and still sells from those older generations. Nor is it confirmed if the increases are going to be a 1:1 for each region. In other words, a static increase of, for example, 15% in all regions where the increases are happening.
Intel CPU price increases are happening across Europe and Asia
Details about the cost going up don’t seem to include the product in the US, but according to The Guru of 3D, price increases have been happening across Europe and Asia. The cost of 12th Gen through 14th Gen Intel CPUs started going up in South Korea and Japan, and has since expanded to other countries, including Germany and Spain.
For example, the Intel Core i5-12400F in South Korea went up from 155,000 won to 177,000 won. That’s a significant jump and one that may cause people to look at other options if they’re trying to grab something for less money.
The Guru of 3D also states that the price jumps are being noticed at both online retailers and via distributors. So, consumers will likely be seeing these higher-priced Intel CPUs in brick-and-mortar stores in addition to online.
It’s also worth noting that many of these price jumps are happening because they’re coming from third-party resellers, not official Intel stock. Retailers may see this and choose to follow. In short, consumers should do their due diligence and search everywhere they can to see if these CPUs can actually be found cheaper. Official Intel stock may also flourish and come down in price with future generations following NVIDIA’s massive investment.
