Instagram, which will soon turn 15, is getting updated with some very familiar social media features. The photo- and video-sharing service is among the most used apps on Android and iOS platforms. Instagram is now getting its very own spin on classic retweets. Additionally, there’s a new social map, a feature that’s quite popular on Snapchat, and a new Friends tab in the Reels section to check out what your friends are engaging with.
Instagram retweets will be present in a separate tab
Instagram gets a new ‘Repost’ feature, which allows users to repost public reels and feed posts. This will make it easier for you to share your areas of interest with your friends. These will appear on your friends’ and followers’ feeds. You can add a note to the repost by typing into the thought bubble. Credits for Reposts go to the original poster.
The reposted reels or photos will be present in a separate tab on your profile, and you can revisit them anytime you want.
Then there’s Instagram’s version of Snap Map, which will be called Instagram Map. This classic map view shows you where your friends are posting. This is an opt-in feature, where users can choose to share their last active location with the friends they choose. You can always opt out and turn it off anytime. Parents can control location sharing on supervised accounts as well.
Instagram gets a new Friends tab
Lastly, Instagram, which recently added a minimum follower requirement to go live, is adding a new Friends tab in Reels. This lets you see public content that your friends have interacted with or “recommendations from Blends you’ve started.” You can also start conversations about them. The Friends tab will let you see the reels your loved ones are creating and engaging with. This feature is now available globally, after being under testing in select markets.
