Samsung Galaxy S26 series phones with a capacitive, dedicated camera button aren’t something that consumers will be getting. However, there is perhaps a world somewhere out there where this was a thing. It’s an interesting prospect, to be sure. Not one that would be too outlandish to think of, either. After all, the iPhone has a dedicated shutter button for its camera, and other phones have offered dedicated buttons for taking pictures long before then.
Of course, from all of the leaks that have come out about the phone, it’s pretty unlikely that the phones will include this type of feature. Samsung is supposed to launch the Galaxy S26 series in February, and with a launch that is potentially that close, the likelihood of a camera button appearing when the most recent leaks make no mention of it drops even further. Although it would be a cool addition for many users, alas, Samsung has seen fit not to include it.
If it had added a dedicated button, it would have been the first Samsung phone in over a decade that offered this feature. The Galaxy K Zoom was the last Samsung phone to give users a dedicated button for taking pictures. It was also physical and not capacitive. So, there were differences.
Samsung had explored the idea of a camera button for the Galaxy S26
While the Galaxy S26 is unlikely to have a dedicated camera button for snapping photos, the interesting bit is that it apparently explored the idea of adding one before coming up with the final design for the phones in the series.
According to Android Authority, this was a possible feature Samsung was looking into. A Samsung supplier reportedly posted on LinkedIn that they had worked on developing a dedicated camera key on the Galaxy S26. What’s more is that it had a swipe gesture, which would make it a lot like the one Apple uses for its phones.
