- Siesta Key has been ranked the US’ top beach by outlets like TripAdvisor and US News & World Report.
- The beach on Florida’s Gulf Coast features Appalachian quartz sand that is always cool to the touch.
- During my visit, I found a low-key beach without the usual trappings of tourist locations.
If you’re daring to face Florida’s heat this summer, you should skip Miami’s crowded beaches in favor of this much cooler option.
Ranked as the US’ top beach by multiple publications, Siesta Key Beach on the Gulf Coast attracts both locals and out-of-town visitors to its white-sand shores, which feature a unique quartz sand that is always cool to the touch, even under scorching temperatures.
In 2025, based on global reviews, TripAdvisor ranked Siesta Key as the US’ No. 1 beach and the fourth best in the world, beating locations in Greece, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. It also came top in US News & World Report‘s 2025 ranking of US beaches.
Yet, the barrier island keeps its small beach-town feel, with a majority of the island composed of single-family homes and condos. Despite being a major attraction, Siesta Key does not have any chain hotels, and lodging options are mostly small cottages and vacation rentals.
I visited Siesta Key to see if I agreed with its ranking, and the experience transported me to the Caribbean beaches where I grew up.
