We’ve been seeing all kinds of phones lately. Going from compact to regular-sized to foldable to wide foldables more recently. The latest development suggests that soon we might see more 7-inch smartphones coming our way. Two Chinese brands are reportedly now eyeing 7-inch large-screen smartphones. These will sit a step above the current flagships in terms of display size.
More 7-inch smartphones might be coming our way
Tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo (via) says that two smartphone brands are testing 7-inch large screen phones. While he hasn’t explicitly mentioned any names, fingers are being pointed towards Huawei and Vivo. But in the sea of tablets and foldable handsets, do we really need a big-screen phone? We’ll probably know when they become a reality.
Following the leak, discussions began among users in the comments section about the benefits of truly big-sized phones. Some are of the opinion that the 16:9 aspect ratio is better than the 21:9 aspect ratio because it offers a notably larger area to view content without black bars. Others note that typing on a 7-inch will be more comfortable in all scenarios.

Large-screen phones may boost specs
Currently, the Huawei Mate 70 Air offers a large 7-inch display. This wasn’t the first time, though. Back in the day, Huawei had launched the Mate 20 X phablet with a 7.2-inch screen. Huawei may bring out a successor to the Mate 70 Air with a 7-inch screen. The next closest we have are phones with a 6.9-inch display, like the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
Meanwhile, Vivo reportedly confirmed a special “MAX” phone with a larger display. In 2022, the Vivo X Note made its debut with a large 7-inch screen. However, this was the time that foldables were starting to see popularity, which ultimately cornered the large-screen devices.
The 7-inch screen phones should give room to boost specs like bigger batteries without compromising camera sensors. We’ll probably know more about these devices in the days to come. But for now, we advise you to take this leak with a pinch of salt.
