Last year, Huawei unveiled the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT. Our initial hands-on left us very impressed, and now, it looks like Huawei is back with a successor. The company has officially taken the wraps off their next-gen tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XTs.
Huawei Mate XTs officially launched
So, what can we expect from the Huawei Mate XTs? For starters, Huawei is keeping the same tri-fold design. In its unfolded state, you can look forward to a massive 10.2-inch display. The display has a resolution of 3,184×2,232 and uses an OLED LTPO panel. It has a 16:11 aspect ratio, peak brightness of 1,800 nits, and a variable refresh rate of 1Hz-90Hz.
Huawei is also advertising the fact that if you prefer, you can use it in single display mode, which has a 6.4-inch display, or dual-screen mode, which has a 7.9-inch display.
Under the hood, the Huawei Mate XTs is powered by the company’s Kirin 9020 chipset. The original Mate XT was powered by the Kirin 9010, but we’re not sure what kind of upgrades Huawei made. In terms of its camera capabilities, the handset features a triple camera setup.
This consists of a 50MP primary sensor with a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0 and supports OIS. It is accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide with an aperture of f/2.2, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and 5.5x optical zoom. Last but not least, the phone packs a 5,600mAh battery. It supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.
Other features
Obviously, since this phone is currently only available in China and given the sanctions against Huawei, the phone does not come with Android. Instead, it runs on Huawei’s very own Harmony OS 5. Huawei made the transition to Harmony OS a while back, so if you’re been using Huawei’s more recent phones, you should be familiar with it.
Also, given the size of the phone, it’s not surprising that Huawei has included support for a stylus. This means you can use the stylus to draw, write, or interact with it. This is one feature that Samsung is missing from its foldables, which feels like a waste. But who knows, maybe Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold could come with S Pen support.
As for pricing, the phone will cost CNY17,999 for the 16GB + 256GB model. After conversion, that’s roughly $2,520. The stylus is sold separately at CNY599 (~$84). Huawei hasn’t mentioned anything about a global launch yet. However, the Mate XT did make its way to the EU, UK, and UAE, so maybe the Mate XTs will as well.
