Local developer Peter Wood is hoping to provide an underserved portion of the Pearland community with more options. The Houston Business Journal reports he is planning a new retail center in Pearland targeting the Asian community. According to the most recent estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, about 17% of Pearland’s nearly 130,000 residents have Asian heritage.
Pearland Asian Town will consist of two buildings totaling about 126,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, with the first expected to be completed in August and the second by the end of the year. Woods is targeting an Asian grocer to anchor the center. Future tenants also include a bakery, Korean barbecue, sushi and boba tea shop. Ye’s Asian Cuisine Buffet Eatery has registered a 12,000-square-foot restaurant build-out.
Wood purchased the 12.7-acre property at 7407 Broadway St. in 2020 from MHI Partnership Ltd.
