Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday that the Trump administration is “trying to hide something” about the files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Donald Trump was hot to trot, and Kash Patel and Dan Bongino were leading the charge to release the Epstein files. Now, all of a sudden, they don’t want them released. They are trying to hide something,” Goldman, a frequent critic of the administration’s handling of the files, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper
Goldman’s Republican colleague, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), offered similar comments on MSNBC the same night.
“I think the best way to clear President Trump’s name is to release all the files,” Massie told MSNBC’s “All In” host Chris Hayes. “I actually don’t think he’s done anything criminal; I think he may be covering for some rich and powerful people that are friends of his. And in fact, some of those billionaires are running ads against me in Kentucky right now.”
Massie also formally filed a discharge petition Tuesday to force action on his bill with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) to publicly disclose files and information related to Epstein’s case.
Earlier this summer, Trump and his administration faced intense backlash over their handling of files related to Epstein from both sides of the aisle.
On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee made public a batch of files it said it got from the Justice Department due to its subpoena for documents related to Epstein.
The Hill has reached out to the White House. The FBI declined to comment on the New York Democrat’s comments.
