The “hot” in the phrase “hot hatches” refers to performance or, better yet, the inclination toward performance compared to standard hatchbacks. Although not as densely populated as a decade ago, the hot hatch segment is still alive—so alive that America saw the introduction of the newest all-American hot hatch, although it’ll never see a public road.
