Our HONOR Magic8 Pro review was published a couple of days ago. In that review, we talked plenty about the phone’s compelling camera setup, though the entire phone is quite compelling. Well, DXOMARK just released its HONOR Magic8 Pro camera review, so let’s see what the company had to say.
The HONOR Magic8 Pro is ranking quite high on DXOMARK’s list, even though folks over at DXOMARK didn’t exactly get their hands on all the best camera smartphones out there. So keep that in mind, some phones are missing, like the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, for example, which is amongst the best out there.
The HONOR Magic8 Pro cameras claimed 6th place in the DXOMARK rankings
With that being said, the HONOR Magic8 Pro managed to claim the 6th place on DXOMARK’s camera list. It sits behind the Huawei Pura80 Ultra. Vivo X300 Pro, OPPO Find X8 Ultra, Apple iPhone 17 Pro, and Vivo X200 Ultra.
The HONOR Magic8 Pro claimed 164 points, the same as the 7th-placed Motorola Signature. It sits 11 points behind the 1st-placed Huawei Pura80 Ultra. Those numbers don’t need much without details themselves, so let’s get to that.
When it comes to ‘pros’ for the camera system, DXOMARK had plenty to say. The company said that the target exposure is accurate with a wide dynamic range in most conditions. That goes for both photos and videos.
The company also mentioned a good level of detail in bright light conditions, and long tele range, also for both photo and video. High level of detail was praised for bokeh as well, while white balance managed to remain neutral with pleasant skin tones.
DXOMARK also mentioned a low level of noise in most conditions for photos, which is also a good thing, of course.
There are quite a few cons mentioned, mostly for video
When it comes to ‘cons’, quite a few of them are listed. Exposure instabilities have been mentioned for video and consecutive shots. Color rendering can be inaccurate in video, while noise is visible in indoor and low-light conditions, especially for video.
Limited level of detail in challenging light conditions for video recording was also something DXOMARK noted. Depth of field can be a bit limited as well, especially on group portraits.
DXOMARK also said that artifacts such as ghosting, quantization, and color fringing are sometimes visible in video content.
