HONOR introduced the Magic V5 as the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone in China last week. It measures just 4.1mm when unfolded and 8.8mm in the folded state. Despite offering such a slim design, HONOR claims the Magic V5 is highly durable. To prove the point, HONOR has posted a video to showcase the durability of the Magic V5.
HONOR advertises the durability of the Magic V5 foldable smartphone
HONOR’s latest marketing video shows the company subjecting the Magic V5 to a simulation of heavy pouring rain. The device has IP59 certification to offer protection from high-pressure water jets. Then, the brand freezes its latest foldable in a block of ice, apart from putting it inside a jar of water that’s at a very high temperature of 80 degrees Celsius.
Furthermore, HONOR shoots the Magic V5 with marble-size steel balls, which show the extreme durability of its front glass and rear panel. The device withstands the impact of steel balls without sustaining any damage at all. In the video, HONOR certainly makes a point that the Magic V5 is one of the most durable, slim foldable smartphones ever made to date.
HONOR’s latest foldable has a new, sturdier hinge and frame
HONOR’s Magic V5 builds on the legacy of the Magic V3 with enhancements in design and durability, apart from improvements in other departments. The new foldable features a balanced design with an eight-curve frame and a Luban Suspension Hinge made of durable steel.
HONOR has reinforced the phone’s durable frame with a carbon fiber backplate and dual aerospace-grade fiber layers, which make it flexible and more impact-resistant than its predecessor. Apart from the IP59 rating for water protection, the phone also has IP58 certification for dust resistance.
That said, after briefly taking pre-orders for the Magic V5, HONOR started selling the foldable in China on July 4. The company is now all set to launch the phone in Malaysia on July 15. It is unlikely that the Magic V5 will launch in the USA due to the ongoing US ban on Huawei and its subsidiary HONOR.
