Remember the hatchback? The small, rather utilitarian car with a liftgate at the back and two or four doors? Well, the subcompact crossover SUV came in, ingratiated itself into the market, and effectively destroyed the hatchback’s presence in the US. The phenomenon began just a couple of decades ago, and now, virtually all automakers who operate within the United States have stopped producing them, save for a handful of outliers, like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic hatch.
