The problem with buying clothes online is that you don’t know how it will look like on you in real-life. Sure, it might look good on the model, but will it look good on you too? Well, Google is looking to solve that problem with a new AI feature that lets you try on clothes virtually just by uploading a selfie.
Google AI feature lets you try on clothes by uploading a selfie
According to Google, this feature takes advantage of the company’s Nano Banana image generation tool. All you need to do is upload a selfie and Google AI will take care of the rest by generating a full body digital version of you with various clothes to choose from. This means that you no longer have to guess if that jacket looks good on you.

Google says, “Select one to make it your default try on photo, and start shopping. If you prefer, you still have the option to virtually try on clothes using a full body photo or a range of models with diverse body types.”
However, do take note that this feature is only available in the United States today. We’re not sure if there are plans to expand it to other countries. Presumably, based on how well this feature does, Google may or may not expand on its availability. After all, AI-based tools consume a lot of resources, even text-based ones. So, this could be Google’s way of managing its resources more effectively.
This feature sounds familiar
If Google’s new feature sounds familiar, it’s because the company introduced something similar back in June. In June, Google announced a dedicated app called Doppl. This app was developed as part of a Google Labs experiment. It works somewhat similar to this new Google AI feature, so we’re not sure why Google needs two platforms that seem to do the exact same thing.
This is Google’s way of showing off its AI capabilities, but obviously there’s a monetization angle as well. The Doppl app was recently updated with a shoppable discovery feed. This means that if you find something that looks good on you, you can buy it directly from the merchants in question.
If you’re curious about this feature and want to see how it works, you can pop over to Google’s website to check it out.
