The problem with the current traditional method of search is that it’s hard to do multiple searches back to back on the same topic. This is because every time you search, it’s like a new query, so you do lose some context along the way. But that’s the beauty of Google’s Search Live, which lets you continue having contextual AI conversations while it gets you the information you want.
Search Live now better for privacy
Now, the problem with Google Search Live is that it will continue listening even when you close the app. However, according to Android Authority, it discovered an upcoming change in the app. With this change, Google Search Live will actually respect your permissions where it will stop listening when you close the app.
At the moment, if you’re in the middle of a search, Google Search Live will continue to listen to you. This still happens if you switch apps or close it. From a privacy standpoint, it’s worrying. This is because you don’t know what the app is picking up on. Or what kind of information it could be sending back to Google.
At least with this change, you know that when you close the app it will stop listening. In version 16.44.59.sa.arm64 of the Google app, it seems that Google is giving users the ability to toggle on or off Search Live when you leave the app. If for whatever reason you prefer the app to keep running, you can. But if you’re worried about privacy, you can just toggle it off.
What is Google Search Live?
For those unfamiliar, Google Search Live might sound a lot like Gemini. Gemini is Google’s AI model where users can ask it all kinds of questions. However, the main difference is that Gemini is designed to be a personal assistant. Sure, it can do search functionality, but it’s necessarily the best at it.
This is compared to Search Live, which keeps true to Google’s search roots. Instead of formulating its own answer, which can be wrong due to AI hallucinations, it will give users a carousel of web links. This means that you can choose to either rely on the given answer, or go through the web links for your own due diligence.
