Ever since Google launched Android Auto, Google Assistant has been the default voice assistant. This allowed users to use some of the features of Android Auto hands-free. But now, Google Assistant will need to look for another job, as it has been replaced by AI. Google has announced that Gemini for Android Auto has started to roll out globally.
Gemini for Android Auto rolls out globally
We previously reported that Google had started the rollout of Gemini, but it wasn’t available for all users. However, this new announcement from Google means that all Android Auto users globally should be able to look forward to Gemini integration soon. The rollout will start with users who have already replaced Google Assistant with Gemini on their phones.
So, what can you do with Gemini?
For the most part, if you’ve already used Gemini on Android before or on the PC, the experience should be more or less the same. However, Gemini’s use in Android Auto is more about facilitating a hands-free experience. We all know that concentrating on something other than the road while driving is dangerous.
So, with Gemini integration, users can continue using Android Auto without prodding and poking away at their screens. Some potential use cases include adding stops to Google Maps while driving. Users can use natural language to ask Gemini for suggestions, which might come in handy during a road trip.
Users will also be able to send and edit messages, like sharing an ETA or, in some cases, even translating. There is also Gmail support, where you can ask Gemini to find hotel bookings in your Gmail account or ask it to summarize unread emails in your inbox in case there might be some important emails you’re expecting.
You can also go beyond productivity with Gemini for Android Auto. You can use the AI to create a soundtrack for your drive, using natural language prompts to get Gemini to create a playlist based on your description on the fly. Last but not least, you can also use Gemini to brainstorm ideas.
Maybe you’ve a long and boring drive ahead of you, so you can use Gemini to educate yourself on some topics or brainstorm ideas. Since Gemini is an LLM-based AI model, you can converse with it naturally.
