Google is rolling out a new update to its Gemini web app, introducing a new labs section to the tools menu. The change aims to simplify access, allow better control, and further improve the overall user experience. Gemini is among the fastest-growing AI tools, and it is constantly getting new options and features. The latest update ensures that new features do not clutter the settings and keep the control simple.
Google Gemini introduces the Labs section to the tools menu
Until now, the Tools Menu on the Gemini website would show all options in a single long list. Depending upon the subscription tier, the user could see several items at once, which made the layout feel cluttered. It also made it difficult to find the right option quickly. However, in the latest update, the core tools are grouped at the top.
The core tools include research, image creation, video creation, canvas work, guided learning, and advanced thinking modes. The list below the section focuses on experimental ideas. The tech giant has also marked the section more clearly to ensure that the users are aware of its current state. A small Labs icon helps explain the difference between stable tools and newer tests.
The update further adds the personal intelligence toggle inside chat
The clear distinction between the stable and beta features ensures that users can explore new ideas without confusion. Over time, tested features may move into the main Tools Menu, while others may change or disappear based on feedback and performance. Alongside the menu change, the update introduces a personal intelligence toggle inside chats. This setting lets users choose if Gemini should use data from connected apps when answering. Users can turn on/off the feature depending on whether they want personal context or not.
The personal intelligence setting only applies to the active chat. Opening a new chat resets the option. Moreover, the changes are currently visible in the Gemini web app. The mobile app doesn’t have access to the updated layout and the new toggle yet.
