Google introduced the “Take a Message” feature for Pixel users last year. This is an easy way to handle all your missed calls. Though it was launched with the Pixel 10, it was later expanded to the Pixel 6 series. It was reported that Google is adding new features to this, like the ability to set a custom voicemail greeting for your contacts. While it’s still not live yet, new developments reportedly show some progress. The Pixel Phone app’s Take a Message custom greetings feature looks almost ready for a launch.
Pixel’s Take a Message custom greetings feature is almost here
For some context, customized outgoing voicemail messages for specific contacts are already possible, but they happen through your carrier. But last fall, folks at Android Authority spotted signs of Google bringing the same kind of functionality to Take a Message. This lets you control all of that right from your phone. Back then, it only revealed a new “Manage greetings” option and also showed the voicemail recording process.
Now, while digging through the version 214.0888174602-publicbeta-pixel update of the Phone app for Android, Android Authority has found more details about this new “Take a Message” feature. Now, there’s a new alert informing the user about the feature. This alert reads, “A personal touch on your missed calls. Now you can set custom greetings for calls handled by Take a Message.”

The report also adds that they could get recordings to actually work, hinting that the feature may become available at any moment. The recording page has a timer before the recording starts. Once it does, the timer progresses, showing the length of the recording along with options to save and restart. You can manage the recordings from the dedicated Greetings page.
Contacts without a custom voicemail greeting will reportedly hear the default one. So, there’s no obligation to record a custom greeting for every contact. It’s not clear when Google intends to roll out this, but considering the progress it has made so far, it sure looks like the company wants to make this available very soon. We’ll be sure to update when that happens.
