Google’s March 2026 Pixel Drop update introduced a new Transit mode feature that helps users customize how their Pixel phone behaves while commuting. It also surfaces real-time At a Glance updates about your transit directly on the home screen and the lock screen. If you were waiting to access this, the time has finally come. Transit Mode is now reportedly rolling out to all Google Pixel phone users.
Google Pixel’s new Transit mode is now widely rolling out
Transit mode is present within the broader Modes system on Pixel phones. You can access it from the Settings on your Pixel phone or through the Modes tile in the Quick Settings. Once enabled, Transit mode will automatically customize key settings during a commute. This eliminates fiddling with settings manually all the time.
Settings for Transit mode allow users to adjust the sound profile (sound, vibration, or silent) and automatically turn on Bluetooth for headphones. It allows filtering notifications (allowing only priority people and apps) and controlling interruptions, such as media sounds, reminders, and alarms. Lastly, it allows tweaking display settings, such as grayscale or dark theme.
Real-time transit updates
There’s also a “Set up Commute notifications” option. You can set it up by adding your home and work addresses, granting background location access permission for Maps, and allowing access to your Google Timeline.
Your Pixel phone will start learning your commute pattern once all this is set up. Google says that the feature will take a few weeks to start surfacing real-time updates about your commute, like delays, directly on the home screen and lock screen. Besides installing the March 2026 update, you don’t have to take any extra steps, like installing any app, to get the new Transit mode. It should start showing up automatically. The new features are available globally on Pixel 7 and newer devices.
