Google has quietly started rolling out the new editor experience and UI of Google Photos on Android devices. Many users on Reddit have reported that the new editor is starting to show up on their devices. However, Google hasn’t yet made an official announcement regarding the rollout of the new editor.
Google celebrated 10 years of Google Photos earlier in May with a fresh look and new tools for the editor. The new Google Photos editor and UI have been in the works for a while. The search titan has finally started rolling out the new editor and UI experience to some Google Photos users across the globe. Many users on Reddit have reported that they’ve started seeing the new user interface of the photo-editing app, as well as the revamped editor on their devices.
The new Google Photos editor and UI are finally rolling out
Earlier this month, Google announced that it was taking a cautious approach with the rollout of the new Google Photos editor and UI. It now appears that the company has finally started rolling out the new editor widely. One Reddit’s Pixel sub user has shared a screenshot of the new editor hitting their device. Others have also confirmed the rollout in the comments to the post.
The new Google Photos editor brings a more streamlined interface. It has various editing tools grouped into categories such as Auto, Actions, Markup, and others. There’s also a new search tool in the Editor screen, which allows users to quickly search for the tool they want to use. Furthermore, there are also new tools like Reimagine and Auto frame, which originally made their debut with the Magic Editor in the Pixel 9 series.
The new editor opens up to mixed reactions
Not all users are excited about the new Google Photos editor and UI. While some users on Reddit are appreciating the new look, others find the change not to their liking. One user said that Google needs to allow users to drag and drop the editing buttons into the order they like. The user also expressed the need for two custom tabs at the bottom with the user’s own choice of icons.
It’s worth mentioning that the new editor and UI of Google Photos isn’t taking away any existing functionality, and it even adds more AI features into the mix. The new editor essentially emphasizes usability and attracts users towards the app’s AI-powered tools. Soon, Google Photos will also be getting a very useful “Help me edit” feature, which would leverage Gemini-powered AI for editing.
That said, Google hasn’t yet made an official announcement regarding the rollout of the new Google Photos editor. Also, it seems to be a server-side change, and it could take a while, even next month, to roll out to all users.
