Last year, Google introduced a new feature in Google Photos that allowed users to turn photos into videos. However, back then, your options were kind of limited. You could pick “Subtle movement” or “I’m feeling lucky.” But the good news is that Google Photos is now giving users more options when transforming a photo to a video.
Google Photos now supports custom photo to video prompts
According to Google, there’s a new update for Google Photos that lets users use custom prompts when turning a photo to a video. This means that instead of hoping for the best, you can be a bit more specific with what you want. Google says, “If you have a specific vision, type a text prompt to describe the movement, style, or effect you want, and watch as the photo is brought to life.”
Alternatively, Google is also giving users prompt suggestions if they don’t know where to start. But what if you don’t like what you see? What if it didn’t turn out the way you expected it to? Luckily, you can edit and refine your prompts until you get something that’s a bit closer to your vision.
Also, in some cases, Google says that some generated videos could include audio by default. This isn’t too surprising given that this feature is powered by Veo 3, which also includes support for audio. The update is currently being rolled out, so keep an eye out for it. You might not notice it right away, but it should eventually make its way to all users.
Expanding on Google Photos functionality
That being said, this change is part of Google’s efforts at making Google Photos more than just a backup destination for your photos. In addition to allowing users to animate photos, Google recently announced a couple of new updates. One of those updates include the ability to turn your photos into memes.
Then, according to a recent report, Google is testing out a feature that brings TikTok-style video discovery to the platform. So, if you ever needed a reason to make Google Photos your one-stop-shop for photo backups, edits, and AI, now seems like a pretty good time.
