Google will allow 15 ‘superfans’ to test unreleased Pixel phones, it seems. The company did not officially confirm this, as the report comes from Bloomberg, but the source does seem confident this is happening.
15 Pixel Superfans will get a chance to test out Google’s unreleased Pixel phones
The company seemingly plans to let 15 fans try new Pixel phones while they’re still in development, basically. Bloomberg says it has seen official rules for a contest called ‘The Trusted Tester program’. That is the name of the program that Google will be running.
In those rules, it says that 15 winners can “help shape a Pixel phone currently in development.” They will, of course, need to sign an NDA, and agree to use the devices in protective cases that are designed to disguise them.
We’ve seen a number of leaks of such phones in the past. In those cases, however, the company’s employees were the ones using the devices, not random fans of a brand. This is a rather interesting twist.
We’ll have to wait for Google to announce this program to get all the information. We still don’t know when will it happen, or what device or devices will be a part of the program. The company could do it for the Pixel 10a, though, or perhaps the Pixel 11.
This contest will almost certainly be limited to the US
This contest will almost certainly be limited to the US, though. That’s just a wild guess, but that’s Google’s home market, and it’s usually the one first-time contests take place. There are other reasons, but let’s keep it at that.
The source did specifically note that the content will be for ‘Pixel Superfans’, so there’s a good chance that you’ll need to be a part of an existing official fan group. The content almost certainly won’t be open for just about everyone.
