Google is making a major move with its Pixel smartphone production. According to a new report from Nikkei Asia, the company will begin developing and manufacturing its high-end Pixel devices entirely in Vietnam starting this year. That’s a pretty big deal.
This isn’t just about final assembly either. Google is moving the entire new product introduction (NPI) process to Vietnam for its flagship Pixel, Pixel Pro, and Pixel Fold devices. NPI is the critical phase where devices are built from scratch, including design testing, component verification, and production line refinement. It’s essentially the most important part of getting a new phone ready for mass production.
Pixel a-series will remain in China
The budget-friendly Pixel a-series will stay in China for now, but the premium stuff is heading to Vietnam.
Google already has a solid foundation in Vietnam. The company mass-produces high-end Pixel phones there and conducts verification processes in the country. So expanding to full development isn’t a massive leap, but it is a significant strategic shift away from China.
This move mirrors what Apple has been doing with India. Both American tech giants are clearly trying to reduce their dependence on Chinese manufacturing amid ongoing trade tensions and supply chain concerns. Rising labor costs and geopolitical uncertainty have pushed companies to diversify where they build their products.
Vietnam has been positioning itself as a major electronics manufacturing hub for years now. Samsung already produces a huge chunk of its smartphones there, and Google’s commitment only strengthens the country’s reputation.
Google hasn’t officially commented on the report yet. But if this pans out, your next Pixel 11 series device could be entirely Vietnamese-made from start to finish. That’s a big win for Vietnam and a clear signal that the global tech supply chain is shifting fast.
