It’s been a massive year for artificial intelligence, and Google is finally seeing its aggressive bets pay off. During Alphabet’s latest earnings call, the company shared a milestone that few expected to see so soon: the Google Gemini app has officially surpassed 750 million monthly active users this 2026.
This jump is significant. Just last quarter, the platform sat at 650 million users, meaning it added 100 million people to its ecosystem in a matter of months. While it still trails slightly behind ChatGPT—which is estimated to have around 810 million monthly users—the gap is closing faster than ever.
750 million and counting: The explosive growth of Google Gemini
The recent Gemini 3 rollout is largely responsible for much of this momentum. Google’s latest model isn’t just about faster answers; it’s designed to provide deeper reasoning and more nuanced conversations. CEO Sundar Pichai described the launch as a major milestone, noting that users are engaging with the app more frequently and for longer periods.
Beyond the app itself, Google is integrating Gemini into almost everything. The company has even achieved one of its most ambitious goals: integrating the search experience with AI. According to Google, its AI models are now processing over 10 billion tokens per minute.
The company is also playing the pricing game. The company recently released “Google AI Plus,” a cheaper subscription that costs $7.99 per month. This new tier was only recently launched, so it won’t have an effect on the most recent quarterly numbers. Still, it shows that Google is trying to get the “middle ground” of users who want premium features but don’t want to pay the $20 a month that most companies charge.
Alphabet hits $400B revenue milestone powered by Gemini’s success
There is a huge financial engine behind these user numbers. Alphabet said that for the first time, its annual revenue was more than $400 billion. This was mostly driven by its AI and Cloud divisions grew. But it’s not cheap to keep this lead. In 2026, Google plans to spend up to $185 billion on infrastructure. The list of costs includes its new “Ironwood” TPU chips, which it needs to keep up with the demand for processing power.
For the average user, these “tech giant” battles might seem distant. But at the end, they result in better, faster, and more accessible tools for everyone.
