Imagine standing in front of your refrigerator, staring blankly at a half-empty carton of eggs and some wilting spinach, wondering what on earth to make for dinner. Usually, this ends with a resigned sigh and a call to the local pizza joint. However, Samsung is betting that the solution isn’t a better cookbook but a smarter appliance. At CES 2026, Samsung is set to unveil its latest lineup of Bespoke AI fridges and wine cellars, and they come with a surprising new guest: Google Gemini.
This marks the first time Google’s powerful AI has been integrated directly into a home appliance. It aims to turn your kitchen into a much more organized space.
Samsung’s new Bespoke fridges use Google Gemini to track your groceries
Samsung has played with “AI Vision” before. Previous models used internal cameras to identify about 37 types of fresh food and 50 pre-registered items. It was a good start, but it was also a bit rigid. If you put something in a Tupperware container or used a non-standard label, the fridge often got confused.
By integrating Gemini, the new Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub becomes significantly more “fluent” in food. The AI can now recognize a much wider variety of ingredients without needing you to manually register them. It can even read your handwritten labels on leftovers or identify items stored in personal containers. Suddenly, your fridge actually knows what you have on hand. The goal is to make the “What’s for dinner?” question much easier to answer.
A sommelier in your wine cellar
The AI upgrade isn’t just for leftovers. Samsung is also introducing a Bespoke AI Wine Cellar equipped with the same Gemini-powered vision. For anyone who has ever lost track of a specific vintage in a crowded cellar, this is a game-changer.
A camera at the top of the unit tracks every bottle as you move it in or out. It recognizes labels, identifies the vintage, and logs the exact shelf location in the SmartThings AI Wine Manager. It can even suggest food pairings based on your current inventory. It’s like having a digital sommelier who never forgets where you put that 2018 Cabernet.
More than just a party trick
While “talking to your fridge” might sound like a scene from a sci-fi movie, the practical benefits are grounded in reality. The system can alert you when food is about to expire, helping to reduce waste and save money. It can even suggest recipes based specifically on what’s inside. Plus, it can manage your energy use by adjusting cooling patterns based on how often you open the door.
Lastly, Samsung is also refreshing the rest of its kitchen suite. The company is including microwaves with better ventilation and ranges with a sleeker, unified stainless look.
