If you have ever tried to edit an AI-generated image, you know the struggle of the current workflow. You see exactly what needs to change, but explaining it to the chatbot often feels like a tedious game of telephone. Usually, you have to circle a spot, exit the editor, and then type a long prompt back in the main chat just to fix a single detail. Well, recent leaks suggest that Google is preparing to fix the clunky AI image editing experience on Gemini once and for all.
Precision AI image editing: Google Gemini’s upcoming markup tools leak
The latest findings come from Android Authority. According to the report, a new update for the Google app beta (version 17.10.54.sa.arm64) reveals a much more powerful interface for editing images. This upgrade is specifically designed for creations made with the Nano Banana family of models.
The most significant change is the addition of a dynamic text box directly within the markup screen. Previously, Gemini only offered basic tools like a pencil or a highlighter. This forced you to leave the editing window to describe the desired changes. In the upcoming version, you can stay exactly where you are, circling a specific object and immediately typing your instructions in a box at the bottom of the screen. This will make the AI tweaking much more accurate.
Beyond the text box, the leak also highlights two new experimental tools called Resize and Effects. The Resize feature will likely allow you to switch between Square, Portrait, and Landscape formats without needing to generate a completely new image from scratch.
These UI improvements match the wider rollout of Nano Banana 2 alongside the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. Google designed the engine for both speed and precision, offering better text rendering and a deeper understanding of real-world objects. Google is using the power of its AI to close the gap between basic AI art and professional-grade controlled editing.
These features are currently tucked away in beta code and require manual activation. Plus, some are not even functional currently. Still, their presence suggests a public launch is on the horizon.
