Google is officially expanding Search Live globally, making its multimodal search experience available in over 200 countries and territories. This update allows users to interact with the Google app via voice and camera in any region where AI Mode is currently active.
The technical foundation of this rollout is the Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model. This specific iteration of the Gemini family focuses on reducing latency and improving the natural flow of spoken dialogue. According to the technical specifications, the model is inherently multilingual. This allows it to process and respond in various languages without requiring separate localized builds.
Search Live: Google starts a global expansion of multimodal AI Mode
Search Live works as a chat layer in the Google app for Android and iOS. When you click the Live icon, the system listens for spoken questions and gives audio answers. After that, users can keep chatting to improve their results or click on the web links to check facts or do more research.
This update also brings the optional use of the device’s camera to provide visual context. Users can point their camera an item instead of trying to explain a complicated object or a technical issue. The AI analyzes the visual data to offer relevant information. For example, you can identify a specific mechanical part or suggest troubleshooting steps for a household task.
A familiar feature for Gemini AI chatbot users
If this process seems familiar, it’s a mismatch. Gemini users have been using the “Live” feature for years. However, in the last couple of years, Google also integrated artificial intelligence into its classic Search service. From this idea was born the already widely used “AI Mode” feature. Now the company is giving this feature its own “Live” capabilities as well.
The feature is now rolling out to all Free and Pro users.
