Google has been quite busy giving its apps a fresh look with the Material 3 Expressive design makeover for a few weeks now. The Mountain View giant has already rolled out the design overhaul to some of its apps, including the Phone app, just last week. Now, the Google Contacts app is also getting the Material 3 Expressive makeover. No wonder, there are a lot of visual changes coming your way.
Google is rolling out the Material 3 Expressive design overhaul to the Contacts app
The news comes via Android Authority, which reported that Google is rolling out the Material 3 Expressive design overhaul with the Contacts app’s version 4.61.27. The expressive UI is reportedly rolling out to users in batches. Worth noting that you don’t need to sign up for the beta, as the design overhaul is coming through a stable channel.Â
Now, you must be wondering, what’s new, right? With the Material 3 Expressive makeover, the Contacts app features a card-like UI, which separates different types of content within the app. Before the update, the app displayed everything on a single sheet, just like you’d see a document in Docs. In short, the Material 3 Expressive redesign makes it easier for you to find anything almost immediately.
That said, the Material 3 Expressive makeover is design-heavy. So, if you are a minimalist fan, it might take some days for you to get used to it. Besides the card-like UI, the icons look more filled, giving the app a polished, new look. As mentioned earlier, Google is gradually rolling out the design makeover. So, if you’re not seeing it yet, don’t worry, you’ll see it eventually.Â
You are unlikely to see UI changes in every section of the app
It’s worth noting that Google is still making some changes at the back end. The report suggests that the Settings and the New Contact page haven’t been updated with the Material 3 Expressive makeover. With Android 16 QPR1 scheduled for Pixel devices this September, we expect Google to fill that gap as well. Let’s not forget that Google Keep, the company’s note-taking app, also received the Material 3 Expressive makeover early last month.Â
