Google I/O, the big annual event from Google, has just had its date confirmed for 2026. Taking to his official X account earlier this afternoon, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that Google I/O 2026 will be taking place on May 19 and May 20. The two-day event will no doubt include a wide variety of announcements on all kinds of Google products, though it’s likely that, similar to the 2025 event, these will mostly be focused on Google’s software-based offerings.
This could include everything from new Android features and updates to Google’s upcoming Android for Desktop endeavor. What it likely won’t include is a lot of new hardware. Google’s mainline Pixel phones and devices are generally saved for the event that happens in the second half of the year. So, those will probably show up closer to the end of the Summer or later. Last year, Google teased the new Gemini for Home hardware during its event in late August, so it’s possible that more of that could make an appearance this year at Google I/O.
Gemini is likely to be a big focus at Google I/O 2026
Much like in 2025, expect Gemini to be another big focus for the 2026 event, as Gemini is still currently a big focus for Google. On top of that, the Google I/O 2026 website is live, and Gemini is one of the first prominent things you see. It’s also one of the first things you see in the animation that accompanies Pichai’s tweet. So, Gemini is obviously part of the event in some capacity.
The animation also shows icons for Android and Chrome, as well as Search, so all the usual suspects will make an appearance in some form.
Over on the website, there is really next to nothing available when it comes to details. You can, however, register for the event if you’re someone who wants to attend and plans to go.
