Security on Android can be a complicated thing when the potential dangers of the platform come from what feels like every angle, but Google has done a pretty good job at combating those security flaws in numerous ways. Each new software update seeks to make the Android platform a safer place for users. That’s not say that Android is a completely secure platform. No platform is really completely secure. On the contrary, Android has its flaws like any other operating system.
That being said, Android is getting safer every month. Google just recently published an article that details what it has done over the past year to make this possible. All so that Android users can feel like their personal information is more secure, because who doesn’t love a little more peace of mind?
Google improved Android security in 2025 by banning more than 80,000 bad developer accounts
One of it not the main sources of security issues on Android is harmful applications in the Play Store. There was a time when the Play Store was less secure and probably less stringent on what apps were allowed. These days, things can still slip through the cracks, but it’s a lot harder to go unnoticed than it used to be. However, a lot harder is not the same as impossible.
Google knows this, which is why it has worked pretty hard to identify these kinds of threats and shut them down as soon as possible. In 2025, Google says that it banned more than 80,000 bad developer accounts that tried to publish harmful apps to the Play Store. That’s a pretty big number. While it isn’t every bad developer account, surely, it’s certainly a fair number of them. That contributes to the overall improvement of security on the platform. And that’s a ton of apps that users didn’t download.
Google also says that it prevented over 255,000 apps from having excessive access to sensitive user data, while also blocking spam ratings and reviews for apps. Part of these improvements comes from implementing Google’s latest generation AI models into the review process. Additionally, Play Protect identified several million malicious apps outside Google Play last year.
