Google has quietly introduced two new experimental AI travel features for the Google Arts & Culture application. It now provides personalized City guide recommendations and Comic Postcards, which can transform your selfies into narrative art. The new tools mark the search titan’s latest push to blend generative AI with cultural discovery. Google says the new features will make exploring a city’s culture more personal and a lot more fun.
Google Arts & Culture app’s new AI-powered features make traveling more fun
City Guide, the first new feature, uses AI to provide cultural recommendations based on your interests and schedule. Rather than just showing regular attractions, this functionality adapts to how a user wants to explore new travel categories, such as history, visual arts, and hidden local gems. Furthermore, it allows you to filter suggestions for a specific time. For example, “today” or “this weekend”, which can help you focus on nearby locations and events that match your mood and time.

The City Guide feature also brings a “Show Live events only” option, which spotlights current exhibitions and performances. Google says this feature can help you sample some “fleeting cultural moments that bring a city to life”. It is now rolling out as a pilot in 11 major cities, including London, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Rome, and Barcelona.
Comic Postcards make your travel memories more memorable
Moving on to the second new feature, Comic Postcards, is a creative extension to the new City Guide feature. It gives you a creative way to document your travel experience in a city. The generative AI-powered tool lets you become the protagonist of a dynamic comic strip set in the city you’re exploring.

To use this feature, you can upload a selfie, select a mood (such as “Zen” for Roman ruins or “Adventurous” for Tokyo streets), and select an art style. Then this feature will create a unique, shareable memento, which incorporates you into a narrative reflecting the city’s vibe.
The Google Arts & Culture app’s new experimental AI travel features are available today. Users can experience them in the app on their iOS and Android devices. With the new features, Google is betting that AI can do more than answer questions or summarize/write emails.
