Just look at how complicated modern heavy-duty trucks are today. They’re built to handle emissions carefully, struggle with finicky high-pressure common-rail fueling, and manage complex electronics. Plus, there are DEF systems, particulate filters, and other gadgets that were almost unheard of twenty years ago. Manufacturers put a lot of effort into designing and building these machines, and the results are undoubtedly strong. Although it’s hard to imagine that one of these powerplants could last for a million miles. However, more than one of these machines has crossed that threshold, turning complexity arguments on their head.
