
The 1950s saw the birth of the American sports car, and it can be argued that much of the world began to see purpose-built sports cars surfacing at this time in large numbers, too. Of course, we can’t forget early post-war examples like the Jaguar XK120 and the obscure Crosley Hotshot, both of which were released in 1949. However, the 1950s saw the birth of the Chevrolet Corvette, arguably the most famous sports car in the US of all time, along with the Ford Thunderbird.
