The Genesis Magma Performance Line is Coming
Genesis has introduced its new high-performance direction, Magma, a program that blends performance and luxury without creating a separate sub-brand. Think of it like the Mercedes-AMG or BMW M of the premium Korean marque. The brand plans to expand Magma across various models in the future, but the first production vehicle to carry the badge will be the GV60 Magma.
According to Genesis, the GV60 was chosen because it’s “the youngest and most dynamic model in the Genesis lineup, and it has a lot of energy.” The GV60 is the starting point for the Magma program, which then expands to other vehicle types.
This choice reflects Genesis’ intent to focus on refinement and emotional connection rather than chasing track-ready extremes. The GV60 Magma will establish the tone for what Genesis calls a new kind of high-performance luxury.

How Luc Donckerwolke Sees Genesis Magma
Luc Donckerwolke – Chief Creative Officer of Genesis and the key to Hyundai Motor Group’s positive transformation over the years – explains that Magma began as a desire to explore a new dimension within the existing Genesis lineup. He calls Magma “the ultimate Genesis model, a superhero of Genesis, combining the values and characteristics of existing models with Magma’s unique personality.”
He describes its driving philosophy clearly: “High performance that makes driving rewarding, not challenging.”
“The moment you get behind the wheel of Magma, you will be amazed at how your hidden driving skills will come to light in situations that require agile driving, such as high-speed driving or cornering,” Donckerwolke said.
In terms of design, the head honcho believes that the key is to maintain balance. Magma’s signature orange exterior was inspired by Korea’s volcanic landscape.

What to Expect from the GV60 Magma
The GV60 Magma will debut soon as the first production vehicle of the Magma program. Genesis has already completed its final round of global testing in locations such as Sweden, California, New Zealand, and Korea.
Though official specs have not been released, we expect the GV60 Magma to produce the same unit found in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, its cousin and platform twin. The latter makes up to 641 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque, but beyond those figures, the GV60 Magma is expected to deliver enhanced agility, improved cooling systems, and more responsive handling.
